Road to the Psychology Faculty

And it takes us even farther……
👣👣👣Road to the Psychology Faculty👣👣👣
Addendum, 07.02.2026.
For me, this period is inseparable from my regular walks to the psychology laboratory at SPbU.
I was in my fourth year at Lesgaft, actively preparing my thesis, with the sense that the main routine of studying was already behind me while the real work was happening right there, in motion. I conducted research, recorded and analyzed electroencephalograms, measuring the amplitude of emotional experiences—that very AEP. Participants came to the lab, I attached the electrodes, they watched video materials with different emotional tones, and we recorded changes in the brain’s electrical activity.
Those days felt quiet and collected. I often arrived early in the morning: picked up the key at the desk, opened the lab, and welcomed participants one after another. It was a period of concentrated, almost meditative work in which theory, practice, and personal interest converged at a single point.
The road in the photograph is that exact route. You leave Sportivnaya metro station and walk along the embankment toward the psychology faculty. In winter, in the cold, under a low sun, beside water and ice. For me it became more than a road from point A to point B. It became a transitional space—time between everyday life and research, between movement outside and a gathering of oneself within.
One small detail: it was during that same period that I opened an Instagram account, and this image became the first photograph on my profile.
It is still there—see the Instagram post.
Questions about this article
01What does the “road to the psychology faculty” mean in this post?
It is both the real winter route from Sportivnaya metro station along the embankment to the SPbU psychology laboratory and a personal image of the transition from university routine to independent research practice.
02What work did the author do in the SPbU psychology laboratory?
In his fourth year at Lesgaft University, he prepared his thesis, conducted studies with participants, recorded and analyzed EEG while they watched emotionally toned videos, and studied what he called the amplitude of emotional experiences.
03Why is the route described as a transitional space?
The regular morning walk separated everyday life from laboratory work and helped the author enter a focused state in which theory, practice, and personal research interest came together.
04Does the post establish the clinical validity of the amplitude of emotional experiences?
No. This is an autobiographical account of a student research project and the author's AEP construct; it does not present clinical validation, a diagnostic method, or a universal inference about emotions from EEG.
